Red Links suck. :P — MeikoTalk / NINJAGOWIKI 12:39, 4 May 2012 (PDT)

Thank You

This is probably overdue, but I'd like to thank you for being so nice and approachable over time, I remember you were the very person I talked to on BS01 to add Takanuva's sparkly mask to your color guide. (Stupid, I know, but yeah). Now I'm nearing my three year anniversary in the community, and have met so many great people and now your with Meiko I'm somehow your 'boss' on TNW! It's really amazing how far we've come, and even though this community isn't near what it used to be, we have a second Wiki, more side projects, and those that remain are closer than ever. So thanks for being so nice to me. Lord Nektann

You're welcome! It's good to know that despite not being nearly as active as I probably should be I'm still appreciated in the community.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 09:33, 29 December 2012 (PST)
Thanks man. It was my pleasure to update this Wiki. Curious, what are your thoughts on the book spoiler policy I asked Dorek about? Should we go with the comic one or go with what BS01 was doing? (2 weeks no info, 2 weeks spoilers). Also your sig is broken, it links to [[User talk: Aanchir'']] which a guy made. Lord Nektann

D'oh, I'll fix that signature issue. But anyhow, regarding book spoilers, I was thinking we go with BS01's spoiler policy until further notice.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 10:34, 29 December 2012 (PST)

Template: Hero

Can you get a fifth switch going on that template? We need it for Furno and Bulk in Brain Attack. Lord Nektann

I'm not very good with templates, and to be honest I'm not in any hurry to add the Brain Attack forms of characters until we can find some solution that makes the templates as a whole more compact. As it is they're growing cancerously with each new wave.
Rest assured, though, that I'm working with the other staff to find solutions.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 15:01, 30 December 2012 (PST)
There's not much to change it though. We really can't do much :/ Lord Nektann

Sm 3

SM 3 says 'all major villains' have been recaptured but minor ones have not. Can we make the logical leap that Alpha 1 is the best team hence every villain they faced is major? This is mainly for adding things to villain pages. Lord Nektann

Well, we do know that Alpha 1 Team is "the best of the best" from some media, but I think assuming that this means the villains they faced were the MOST major is a bit of a leap. Especially since I imagine most Hero teams were dispatched with the goal of capturing major villains-- minor ones would not have been a real priority in the immediate aftermath of the Breakout.
What exactly were you thinking you'd add to those pages? As far as I can tell all the quote really tells us is that they were major villains, but that's such a vague description (who's to say ANY of the villains we've seen in the story are minor?) that it doesn't really tell us very much.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 07:09, 27 January 2013 (PST)

Re: Set Numbers

The only problem there is that BS01 does not put set numbers in any images. And it's worked pretty good. Much easier than set numbers for people to remember is the wave. If you look at Gallery: Tahu, all his images say 'Tahu Mata' or 'Tahu Stars' or 'Tahu Nuva', or 'Tahu Mistika'. I can't think of a single image on BS01 with the set number. It's much easier for people to get it if we do '1.0', '2.0', '3,0', 'XL', 'Breakout', 'Brain Attack'. People memorize that more than set numbers. And 'CGI Breez' is fine. The image was okay, but I think the name is fine. Lord Nektann

I would have done it just like BS01 does if I thought that was a good idea-- as it is, I think the opposite. First of all, "Tahu Stars", "Kongu Mahri", "Vakama Hordika", etc. are poorly-phrased terms that as far as I know were never used officially except when describing the Toa Nuva. Every other team's members are consistently referred to as "Toa Hordika Vakama", "Toa Mahri Kongu", and in the case of Tahu, usually just "Tahu" or "Toa Tahu". This means that if the WRONG term is used consistently, or if the correct and incorrect terms are used interchangeably, then it doesn't help with remembering page names much at all.
BS01 also was plagued with poor uses of "CGI" to refer to images when, again, almost EVERY official BIONICLE image was CGI (the only exceptions tended to be comic illustrations, plus some of the larger set pics and occasional canister set pics, which used photos). And if you think it's just the image names that have that problem, think again. I remember being frustrated out of my mind at how many pictures described characters as "Such-and-such in CGI form" or "So-and-so in set form", as if CGI were some radically new character design rather than (usually) just the set rendered digitally, just like EVERY OTHER picture of the sets from that series.
Thirdly, with Hero Factory that naming scheme just wouldn't work as well because things like "Breakout Breez" and the like are even LESS official, plus we have characters like Furno and Bulk who have more than one "1.0" form (and that's not a thing of the past-- reports from the London Toy Fair suggest that there will be another set of Rocka later this year). Part of the reason we started using set numbers was to address this issue. And frankly, there's no need to memorize any character's set numbers. It's an easy fact to look up (Brickset is a good reference for this), and I try to refer to the set number consistently any time a page or template is describing the sets rather than the characters.
Overall, I just think changing this notation would create more problems than it would solve. It would encourage people to use vague or misleading fan terms (I shudder remembering how many people-- and BS01 image file names-- used to incorrectly refer to the figure in Rockoh T3 as "Pohatu Mistika", which was just as official as "Hero Factory 5.0"), would invoke arbitrary naming schemes (if we call this one "Breakout Rocka", shouldn't that one be "Savage Planet Nex" or "Ordeal of Fire Evo"?), and would potentially create unforeseen problems for us in the long run.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 12:04, 27 January 2013 (PST)

Spinning Razor Shield

Recon team? External Image Dorek 12:55, 28 January 2013 (PST)

According to his character page blurb (which also, incidentally, is his shop.LEGO.com bio):
"Head for the LEGO® Hero Factory briefing room immediately, ROCKA! The evil brains are rampaging through the galaxy and must be defeated. This is one tough mission, so you have been equipped with LEGO Hero Factory Recon Team weapons: a plasma blade sword, a 360-degree spinning razor shield, armored visor and hero core locking clamps. With equipment like this, you're ready for anything those evil brains can throw at you!"
So here you are and there you go. =) --External Image|Talk|Contributions 18:46, 28 January 2013 (PST)
Huh, didn't see that. Was only paying attention to the pop-up information. Also wondered if it was some mention in SM3. Thanks!
Also, get on WLM whenever, we have something we want to try out. External Image Dorek 10:43, 29 January 2013 (PST)
More like YOU get on Skype. >:)
Nah, seriously, been pretty stressed out lately, but I'll try and find time to get on WLM (though remember that I can't do group chats there; I can on Skype).--External Image|Talk|Contributions 11:09, 29 January 2013 (PST)

In SM 3 Rocka has a razor blade shield he telepathically controls. Lord Nektann

Which I'm assuming is the same thing (yes?), I was just wondering if it was mentioned in SM3 that it was Recon equipment. External Image Dorek 14:00, 29 January 2013 (PST)
Nah, SM3 actually hardly even gave any description of the new equipment (although at one point it describes the rocket packs that the Heroes use as some of "Rocka's jetpacks", which suggests they might be connected with the summer Jet Rocka set seen at London Toy Fair).
The only thing that even gives any clear confirmation that the heroes are using their new weapons is that Rocka is described as having a sword and a shield he can throw (which wouldn't make any sense for the Hex Energy Shield). Breez is also described as having a shield that sounds physical rather than like an energy weapon, and her other weapon is described as a two-bladed lance or dual-bladed weapon most of the time, which is fairly ambiguous. However, what she does with it seems like it'd make more sense for her new tool since she uses it like one might use a staff-- for instance, planting it in a ground to do a spinning kick would be difficult with a sword that only has one small section of handle, like she had in her Breakout equipment.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 12:03, 30 January 2013 (PST)
No, Hero Recon Team is not mentioned once. Lord Nektann

Aird

I figure Arid, means dry, Fire Villains, etc. I just went with what was used more consistently, which turned out to be wrong =P. External Image Dorek 11:52, 30 January 2013 (PST)

Yeah, Aird seems like it's supposed to be a proper name-- maybe the planet the corporation is headquartered on, or the name of the founder. Also, didn't Greg more or less confirm that he didn't write the mining robot scene with the robots that became the fire villains in mind? Doesn't mean that they weren't owned by the same mining corporation, of course, but drawing connections isn't really too feasible at this point.
The Aird Mining Corporation still could turn up again, of course, just like Asteroid J-54 did, and if they do they might even merit their own article, since they had two important roles in Legion of Darkness (they owned both the mining robots that were tampered with and the ore freighter that was hijacked).--External Image|Talk|Contributions 12:03, 30 January 2013 (PST)
He did, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen!
But yeah, it's a name, like Makuro or whatever. People just wrote it down incorrectly multiple times. External Image Dorek 12:30, 30 January 2013 (PST)

2013 set template

What're wer gonner der? External Image Dorek 13:01, 3 February 2013 (PST)

What, you mean for the summer sets? I dunno, probably best to wait until we've seen more of them in more detail. I can whip up a temporary navbar since we have the names from the London Toy Fair, but the color may or may not change once we know more about the visual direction of that wave (currently the packages we've seen seem to use the same colors and layout as the 1HY sets, which is an issue but not an insurmountable one).--External Image|Talk|Contributions 13:15, 3 February 2013 (PST)
Assume they're the same color and visual palette, which it looks to be. Would we still have a 2013b, or lump it all into a full year template? External Image Dorek 13:26, 3 February 2013 (PST)
Call me noisy but they're still part of Brain Attack, so a full year template would be fitting I guess. -- Creepa Demon 13:31, 3 February 2013 (PST)
Hmmm, hard to say. I think better to go with a separate section just for the sake of consistency. After all, we're going by release waves, not story arc-- otherwise we'd have put the Breakout waves together. Anyway, it'll be easier to combine the sections than to separate them out if we change our minds later on.
Working on it right now.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 13:33, 3 February 2013 (PST)
Also, I suppose I never brought this up, but shouldn't there be a third section to distinguish box sets from large sets? (or large box sets, in the case of 2010-2011 =P)? External Image Dorek 14:06, 3 February 2013 (PST)
Ideally, I'd have three groups: small ($7.99-$9.99; canister or small bag), medium ($12.99, small box or medium bag), and large (more than $12.99, large bag or large box). To be honest I'd be happy to do this (and considered doing this when I was changing the color of the early 2013 sets a while back), since this is basically how the sets have been "tiered" from the beginning. The only reason I haven't done this so far is that for early 2011, for instance, there would be only one set in the "large" category.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 15:04, 3 February 2013 (PST)
I like the idea, so I think we should go for it.
I'll let you divide it nicely =D External Image Dorek 15:57, 3 February 2013 (PST)

Locking Pages

I should have. But then I didn't. Laziness is a cruel, cruel mistress. External Image Dorek 10:08, 5 February 2013 (PST)

Aquagon

1 These colors are bad, and you should feel bad! External Image Dorek 20:10, 5 February 2013 (PST)

Was just trying to come up with a solution that used his official colors somehow. The colors he had before were the same as Dragon Bolt's. I didn't think the new color scheme was that bad, and I'm having a hard time coming up with a better one. Next best one that reflects his color scheme is #FAC80A and #3E3C39, but that doesn't look too good in the template. #FAC80A and #8C8C8C suggests XT4 more than Aquagon.
I really ought to put together a "color index" type thing for this site so that people can collaborate more on colors. Might not work for all characters (specifically non-set characters), but the number of colors used in Hero Factory sets so far is not excessively large.--External Image|Talk|Contributions 15:47, 7 February 2013 (PST)
