The Trials of Furno was the first Hero Factory comic, publicly released on the official Hero Factory website. It was based off the script for the first television episode called Episode 1: Trails of Furno. It was made by LEGO, and published by DC Comics.

Plot Summary

Alpha 1's senior members are pinned down by XPlode and Rotor in Merak 9, with Preston Stormer ordering William Furno to stay back. Stormer attacks XPlode, and he flees, leaving Rotor behind alone. Furno is ordered to Hero-cuff Rotor, refusing back-up from Dunkan Bulk. Rotor escapes, and Stormer saves Furno. Back at the Hero Factory, Furno takes Stormer's advice and goes to the Training Sphere to replay the mission. Natalie Breez and Mark Surge warn him that he has been working too hard, but Furno insists that he wants to impress Stormer. Stormer then takes the rookies on a training mission, but are called to Lemus 2 where XPlode and Rotor are stealing explosives. They attack a decoy Hero Pod, and the Heroes go to attack the pair. XPlode knocks Stormer out, and Furno jumps on the Furno Bike, rushing at the criminals. Surge shocks XPlode, and Furno hero-cuffs Rotor while XPlode gets away. As the others stand over Rotor, Stormer says that when XPlode returns, Hero Factory will be ready.

Trivia

An uncolored version of a page of the comic
  • Copies of the comic were released exclusively at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. The event happened in July 2010 while the television episode that the comic issue is based on aired on September.
  • The comic has some differences from the episode:
    • The comic is a short version of the episode, as it did not include Nathaniel Zib, Quadal, Akiyama Makuro, or Lucy, who never had sets, but Zib's voice can be heard in the part of the comic where Stormer and the rookies were using their Drop Ship to get to Lemus 2. Also, XPlode's flying vehicle from the episode is not in the comic, as it never had a set, either.
    • In the comic, the Hero Cuffs look like regular handcuffs with square cuffs and a cord, but in the episode, the cuffs are circular.
    • In the comic, after Furno jammed Rotor's propeller blades, Rotor tried to use his Biohazard Gas Shooter to attack Furno, but in the episode, Rotor used a smaller, pistol-like version of a Meteor Blaster.
    • In the comic, XPlode destroyed Furno's Hero Pod, but in the episode, it was Rotor that did it.
    • In the comic, Furno used an ultrasonic signal to summon the Furno Bike, but in the episode, he ran to his Drop Ship and collected the Bike before going back into battle.
    • In the comic, Surge's weapons were two separate weapons, but in the episode, they seem to be combined.
