Comics are a medium used to tell the story in the Hero Factory franchise, mainly included within the LEGO Club Magazines. All of the main Hero Factory comics have been published by DC Comics, with the exception of the eighth and ninth Breakout series comics.
Publication History
There are seven comics that are based on the scripts of the first seven Television Episodes. They have some differences from the episodes, like quotes. There are also mission logs, which are made by the Heroes and describe the events of the stories a little.
The first comic, Trials of Furno, was released as an exclusive to those who attended the LEGO booth during Comic-Con 2010, and other related functions. The second comic, Core Crisis, was included in the September–October 2010 issue of the LEGO BrickMaster Magazine, as individual pages within the magazine. The third and fourth comics, however, were postponed, and eventually not released in the LEGO Club Magazine. The third comic was eventually released online through a third-party promotional website, and the fourth comic was only available through certain third-party sites. These four were all based on the scripts of the four episodes in the Rise of the Rookies miniseries.
The fifth comic, Ordeal of Fire, detailing the second wave of sets, was again released in the LEGO Club Magazine, in the March–April 2011 issue. Unlike the previous comics, this one diverged from the corresponding TV episode, and the new plot introduced in the comic was never finished. The sixth comic, Savage Planet, was released in the July–August 2011 issue of the LEGO Club Magazine, introducing the summer 2011 sets and story, and based on Episode 6, the first half of the Savage Planet TV special. In the November–December 2011 issue of the LEGO Club Magazine, a second part to the sixth comic, Savage Planet 2, was released. This comic contained the final part of the Savage Planet storyline that had been seen in Episode 7.
In the first LEGO magazine issue of 2012, two pages of the eighth comic, Breakout, were included. At the end of the comic, a Club Code was included that, when entered on LEGOclub.com, revealed the remainder of the comic, dubbed "Part 2". This method of distribution was repeated with the ninth comic, Breakout: Issue 2. However, these two comics describe a different story than portrayed in their respective episodes, Episode 8 and Episode 9, and are considered outside of the canon.
Along with the main comics, there are promotional comics that came from many Lego magazines, online pages in the Lego Club section of the Lego website, and 2013 and 2014 sets. All but one called Showdown! are not canon. One of the promotional comics, Double Dragon Danger!, repeated the same method of using a Club Code in LEGOclub.com to reveal the remainder of the comic. The comics shown in the 2014 sers were also released in HeroFactory.com. The Lego Club system is no longer available in the LEGO website.
