Von Nebula is the fourth and final episode in the Rise of the Rookies miniseries. The episode aired September 23, 2010 on Nicktoons and was written by Sean Catherine Derek and directed by Mark Baldo.
Plot
Preston Stormer, Dunkan Bulk, and Jimi Stringer arrive at New Stellac City in response to a crater that has mysteriously appeared in the city's plaza. Bulk notes that New Stellac was the site of the Von Ness mission. Stormer deduces that the crater is not a natural disaster. Zib and Quadal confirm this idea. Stormer and Stringer believe that this is a trap that they and Bulk had walked into. Suddenly, two more meteors to arrive at the city. After the meteors landed and created more craters, Thunder and Corroder come out of them and begin firing upon the heroes.
At Hero Factory, William Furno, Mark Surge, and Natalie Breez are attempting to master the Anti-Gravity Thruster Rings built into their boots. They accidentally float into mission control, where Zib berates them for fooling around in mission control during an emergency. The three rookies land and watch as the battle between Alpha 1 and the villains continues.

Zib warns Stormer that Thunder's weapon is giving off a strange radiation. Stormer then takes a hit from Thunder and communication is lost. Quadal's analysis of Thunder's weapon shows that it fired Nebula Gases. In his black hole, Von Nebula watches the battle progress and declares that his revenge against Stormer has only just begun.
Zib assigns the rookies to go help the veteran Heroes in New Stellac. Before they depart, Zib gives them Particle Separators, which will allow them to become temporarily intangible. Surge tests one of the devices out, with Zib being too late to stop him. Zib then uses Surge to demonstrate the device's function. Surge reforms his body, which makes him feel that he got turned inside out. Zib then advises them to elect their team leader as no other is available. Surge and Breez choose Furno to lead, enlightening him.

During their journey to New Stellac through Hero Pods, Zib shows the rookies an archive footage of the mission that the senior members of Alpha 1 mentioned earlier. When team leader Thresher was knocked unconscious by an attacking giant drone, Stormer dragged him to cover and tried to urge fellow rookie Von Ness in helping him defeat the drone. Von Ness refused out of cowardice, causing both Heroes to argue. When the drone was approaching them, Stormer ended the argument by leaving Von Ness to guard Thresher while he drew the menace away from them. However, Von Ness tried to leave in the Hero Craft. Despite Stormer's attempt to stop him, Von Ness pushed Stormer away. In a stunning move, Stormer jumped from the Hero Craft and crippled the drone, single-handedly saving the city. However, Stormer could not stop Von Ness from escaping and becoming rogue.

The rookie team arrives at New Stellac City. They go to find the Alpha team while Breez uses her scanning device to do so. While the rookies do not find any trace of veteran Heroes yet, Breez finds a signature from the Nebula Gases. Thunder and Corroder emerge, preparing to attack the rookies. The rookies prepare to attack the villains as well, but XPlode and Meltdown arrive in meteors to help their fellow villains attack the Heroes. The villain start using their Meteor Blasters to attack the Heroes. The rookies are saved by the Alpha team, who comes out of hiding. The six Heroes take cover behind the interior wall of the first crater and start firing at the villains. Furno and Stormer keep each other up to date on the mission and Von Ness still hiding. A black hole appears over the city and sucks away the Heroes' weapons and devices. The Heroes do a "Hero Link", where they link up with their forearms in order to keep from being drawn in themselves. However, Stormer does not link up because he believes Von Ness is in the black hole, so he starts to the black hole. Von Nebula appears in the hole, declares that he is not Von Ness anymore and he assumes his new identity. Furno deduces that Von Nebula was somehow able to create the black hole. Stormer tells the other Heroes to go fight the other villains, who reveal to be Von Nebula's henchmen, while Stormer goes to fight Von Nebula himself. He allows himself to be sucked into it, going after the mastermind. Furno says the same thing to the other Heroes and then follows Stormer. Stormer and Furno arrive inside the black hole. Stormer is surprised that Furno disobeyed a direct order while calling him "kid". Furno wants to be called "Furno" and "Team leader Furno", and to help Stormer. Stormer reluctantly allows Furno to help him, but tells him that this time, he is giving the orders. The two Heroes cling to the walls of the vortex to avoid being pulled down.
Meanwhile, since Bulk, Stringer, Surge, and Breez no longer have their weapons, they take cover with the interior wall of the crater from the criminals' fire. Breez remembers the Particle Separators Zib had given them all. Stringer reveals that Zib gave him and Bulk their own Particle Separators, too. Surge is not fond of the idea of using it because of his disturbing experience with it.
Meanwhile, Von Nebula emerges in the black hole and reveals to Stormer and Furno his plan to use the Quaza mineral in their cores to amplify his black hole. The two Heroes resolve to resist the vortex, but Von Nebula warns them that their efforts are futile.
Finally, the villains run out of ammunition. The four Heroes emerge from cover and subdue Thunder, Meltdown, and Corroder.

XPlode resists, launching his Explosive Spikes at them. However, the Heroes use their Particle Separators to survive the attack, despite Surge's reluctance in using his Particle Separator, and Stringer takes down XPlode. Bulk and Stringer use a strip of metal from a monument to Stormer to trap the four villains. Surge's head is twisted backwards when the attack happened, but Breez tells him to reactivate Particle Separator to fix himself while Breez and Bulk tease him for his condition. Breez then hopes that Stormer and Furno are okay in the black hole.

Meanwhile, Stormer and Furno decide to use their Anti-Gravity Thruster Rings to counteract the force of the black hole. Von Nebula (who had been monitoring them) emerges, intending to take the devices away, and the Heroes trick him into believing Stormer has the rings. While Von Nebula attacks Stormer, Furno drops the rings into the vortex, disrupting the black hole. Stormer disarms Von Nebula and sucks him into his own staff, despite Von Nebula warning Stormer to stop and that he would use the staff to destroy them all. The two escape the black hole moments before it explodes and dissipates. The two land in New Stellac City and reunite with the other Heroes. They immediately depart for Hero Factory with the staff and the four criminals.
Upon their arrival they are met by a reporter and her floating camera robot. Stormer gives credit to the rookie team, calling Furno by his name (something he had previously refused to do) by saying "Team leader Furno", enlightening Furno. As Stormer and Furno walk into the building, they share their doubts on whether Hero Factory's vault can contain Von Nebula. Inside the vault, a flying robotic insect buzzes around Von Nebula's staff. A bolt of energy strikes the insect and sucks it into the staff.

Trivia
- There is a YouTube video, which has an unfinished testing animation for the episode.
- The archived footage is an extended version of Stormer's flashback seen in Episode 2: Core Crisis, as it continued after Thresher was hit by a green bolt of energy shot from the drone. However, the footage did not include the part where the Drop Ship was arriving at New Stellac City and landing on its plaza.
- This is the first episode where Stormer called Furno by his name rather than just calling him "kid".
- The part of the ending with the Black Hole Orb Staff being kept in the Hero Factory may have foreshadowed a breakout in Episode 8: Breakout Part 1.
