Episode 10: Brain Attack is the tenth episode in the Hero Factory television series, released in March 7, 2013. It was the first to not originally air on television, instead released as a webisode on HeroFactory.com, though it later appeared on Nicktoons on April 4, 2013.

Plot

In a laboratory on a rocky gray planet, multiple Brains are being loaded into space crafts while an unidentified villain, in possession of Hero Factory's plans acquired by Black Phantom, observes and launches the Brains into space in order to destroy the Hero Factory.

Meanwhile, Dunkan Bulk, William Furno, and Preston Stormer are in a park of Makuhero City in dedication of a memorial built for six members of the Alpha 1 Team. Daniela Capricorn approaches Furno, and asks the Hero about Mission: Catch 'Em and Cuff 'Em's status, with Furno replying that the mission is going great and he and the Heroes will not rest until they recapture the rest of the villains in the mission. Mark Surge uses his hands to electrically charge a truck. He and Natalie Breez then are giving out autographs while Surge expresses his disdain for dealing with citizens, despite Breez telling him to get used to it. Nathan Evo is playing Roboball with some other attendees.

In space, the Brains speed toward Makuhero City's planet. Two of them crash down near two green ogres. One Brain leaves its ship and jumps on one of the ogres' head, turning it into Ogrum. At the same time, in a desert area, a Brain jumps on a Dune Crawler and transforms it into Scarox. Many yeti-like creatures are transformed into Frost Beasts. A bull-like creature is transformed into Pyrox by a Brain. A rock creature, looking for food, is transformed into Bruizer by a Brain hiding under a rock. A Brain lands underwater and transforms a sea creature into Aquagon, who swims to Makuhero City. A lone Brain walks into a dark cave inhabited by a giant monster. Blue flashes of struggle are seen, followed by red eyes and a menacing roar.

As Furno, Evo, and Daniel Rocka pose for pictures, the Heroes receive an alert on their visors, and rush to Hero Factory. At Mission Control, Professor Nathaniel Zib informs the team that destruction has been reported all over the planet and that an army of creatures are heading from different areas to the city. Quadal is overwhelmed by the large number of the incoming villains, and Surge leads the Heroes to the Assembly Tower where they are upgraded with new equipment in order to defend the city. The seven Heroes go outside the Factory and witness the city under attack. Furno, who got an XL form, directs other Hero teams to guard certain areas, while Evo is sent to the service canals which were being overrun. Surge is left to guard the entrance to the Hero Factory, much to his annoyance.

Breez, Stormer, Furno, Rocka, and Bulk arrive to the streets and observe multiple citizens fleeing from an army of the Brain-controlled monsters. Rocka notices something on top of the creatures. Furno suggests that they should not hurt the creatures.

Capricorn and her camera robot stay in the streets, reporting live news while narrowly being attacked by Pyrox, two Dune Crawlers, and Frost Beast, but are saved by the Heroes. A Brain jumps on her camera robot. Capricorn tries to smack the Brain off her camera robot, but they are chased by more Brains, ending the recording.

In the service canals, Evo flees from Aquagon's species and signals Zib to ask about how many creatures are there. When another member of Aquagon's species comes in front of Evo, Evo grabs and throws the creature to the others. He then uses his Tornado Staff to push the creatures away. Evo thanks Zib for giving him the Tornado Staff. Zib warns Evo that there are still thousands of creatures attacking the city. Furno uses his shield to deflect fire from Pyrox, as Stormer duels Frost Beast, but Stormer states that he and his fellow Heroes will tire out. Bulk fights two rock giants while Stormer while two Dune Crawlers and Ogrum attack Breez. Ogrum wraps Breez in vines as Scarox jumps on top of her, ready to bite her, but she cuts the vines, pushes Scarox out of the way, and ties up Ogrum.

Surge defends Hero Factory from Brain-infected creatures, but one Brain climbs to his shoulder and attacked him. Surge uses his Lightning Blades to shake the Brain off, but he accidentally shocks himself along the way. More Brains surround Surge and Zib loses his signal. Zib contacts Furno and asks him if he can see Surge, but Furno states that he cannot find Surge when he is busy fighting the Brain-possessed creatures.

Bulk knocks Bruizer's Brain off by hitting the Brain's red spikes, and Bruizer hugs Bulk in gratitude. After Bruizer leaves, Bulk tells his Alpha 1 teammates about the Brains' weak spot being the spikes. Evo frees Aquagon's species while his Alpha 1 teammates in the streets attack the Brains, freeing the monsters from their grips.

While the Heroes are celebrating their victory, Dragon Bolt, a large Dragon possessed by a Brain and the very monster from the cave, arrives over Makuhero City and begins attacking Alpha 1 before flying away. Zib finds Surge in the Assembly Tower as Dragon Bolt dives into Hero Factory itself, smashing through the building's wall. Rocka pursues the Dragon, while the rest of the Heroes enter the Hero Factory and discover an army of mindless drones called Blank Heroes, programmed to attack the Alpha 1 Team. As the Heroes wonder who programmed the drones, a Brain-controlled Surge appears behind the rest of the Blank Heroes. Furno tries to reason with the controlled Surge, but Surge retreats, and the drones attack the team.

Elsewhere, Rocka searches for Dragon Bolt, discovering a massive pit in the Hero Factory's storage bay. Dragon Bolt ambushes Rocka with his tail, and after attacking him with electric fireballs, Rocka flees and locks himself inside a storage room before Dragon Bolt can strike him with his tail. He finds a machine and develops a plan.

Alpha 1 continues to battle the Blank Heroes, and Stormer sees Surge authorizing the creation of more drones, trying to destroy the Hero Factory. Furno orders Breez to take down Surge, and she manages to reach him.

While Dragon Bolt is wandering around his room, Rocka equips himself with the machine, which is a large jetpack, and uses it to chase Dragon Bolt out of the Hero Factory.

Breez stops Surge from making more Blank Heroes. Surge starts attacking her.

Rocka chases the dragon through the city.

Breez tries to talk Surge out of his Brain's control, but Surge cannot hear her.

Dragon Bolt disappears, and Rocka is trying to look for him. However, Dragon Bolt ambushes Rocka from below, so Rocka flies out of the way to avoid the attack. Rocka jumps out of the booster pack and lands on top of Dragon Bolt, knocking the Brain off him. Dragon Bolt eats the Brain in one bite in revenge for controlling him.

Breez manages to knock Surge's Brain off, and Surge deactivates the Blank Hero army. Zib reports to the other Heroes that the other Heroes defeated the Brains in Makuhero City. The Alpha 1 Team members go back to help the citizens while Rocka lets three children observe Dragon Bolt. While Surge is helping the citizens, he finds value in working with the people he serves.

After everything is back to normal, two workers are lowered into the massive hole in the ground Dragon Bolt created while he was inside Hero Factory. While joking, they find green goo on the ground, and are ambushed by a swarm of Brains that jump at them.

Trivia

  • Although Dunkan Bulk's voice actor was uncredited for an unknown reason, it is possible that Christopher B. Duncan voiced him, like in the previous episodes.
  • Though Bulk and Breez were involved with the Breakout story arc and got the Breakout upgrade, they never appeared in Episode 8: Breakout Part 1 or Episode 9: Breakout Part 2. When they appeared in this episode, they were in their 2.0 forms before they got the Brain Attack upgrade. It is unknown why these scenarios happened. In canon, Bulk and Breez were in their Breakout forms rather than their 2.0 forms before they got their Brain Attack forms.
  • In the episode, Furno's Breakout form did not come with the Aquajet Pack.
  • When Rocka got his jet-pack, he was never in his Jet form from his Jet Rocka set for an unknown reason. The jetpack can fit Rocka's normal Brain Attack form well.
  • There are questionable aspects of the creatures' normal forms:
    • Frost Beast and members of his kind each have claws on both of their hands. When they are mutated by the Brains, their right hands become to look humanoid, and they hold Fanged Frost Blades.
    • Bruzier and members of his kind each have arms that are both large and bulky. When they are mutated by the Brains, their left arms become small and to have humanoid hands.
    • Aquagon and members of his species each have blade-like fins for hands. When they are mutated by the Brains, their hands become to look humanoid, and they hold Dual Sword Staffs.
  • Bruizer and his kind do not have their Rock Knives shown in the episode.
  • Unlike Dragon Bolt's fellow Brain-possessed animals, his normal form was never shown in the episode, even if he was freed from his Brain, who mutated him when it possessed him. Reason for this is unknown. It is canon that Dragon Bolt changed back to his normal form after being freed from the Brain. Dragon Bolt is also the only member of his species to appear in the episode for an unknown reason.
  • Jimi Stringer and Julius Nex did not appear in the episode for some reason. It is unknown if they have their own Brain-controlled animal counterparts. Stringer and Nex also never had Brain Attack sets for some reason, anyway.
  • There are six statues in the park, each representing one of six members of the Alpha 1 Team, who are, from left to right, Surge, Breez, Furno, Stormer, Stringer, and Evo, despite Stringer not appearing in the episode. Each of the statues has the Hero's primary color. All of the statues are based on the Heroes' their Breakout forms, though Breez's is based on her 2.0 form when it should be based on her Breakout form. It is unknown there are no statues for Rocka, Bulk, and Nex.
  • Surge and Breez' promotional signatures, seen in the Hero Factory Promotional Magazine, are shown in the episode when Surge and Breez are signing digital autographs. The surname part of Breez' signature is only shown.
  • There are six online shorts in HeroFactory.com and Lego's YouTube channel that extended the Makuhero Planet animals' encounters with the Brains in the episode. Each of the shorts is for one of six of the animals' perspective, and these animals are Ogrum, Scarox, Pyrox, Bruizer, Frost Beast, and Aquagon. After each short, there is an advertisement for one of the Brain-possessed animals' Lego set. The first four came out in the early half of 2013 while the other two came out in the late half. It is unknown why the exclusive clips were not featured in the episode, probably because of the episode's runtime issues. Dragon Bolt has his own short, but it only has all of his scenes in the episode, but it has an extra scene where Dragon Bolt is emerging from a dark place.(Watch the sixth video below) It is unknown why this scene was left out from the episode, probably also because of the episode's runtime issues. It is also unknown why there is no short that extended Dragon Bolt's encounter with his Brain. The other six online shorts show:
    • Ogrum and a fellow ogre pick up mushroom-like fungi and are about to eat them in a jungle when Brains, in their rocket tanks, come to the jungle and land on the ground, getting the ogres' attention. However, Ogrum dismisses it and resumes finding mushrooms. One of the rocket tanks opens, allowing its Brain to come out of and leave it. Ogrum is going to eat a mushroom when the Brain jumps from behind and latches onto his head. Ogrum is struggling while being covered with vines. His eyes turn red. Ogrum gets mutated into a monster and frees himself from the vines. He swings his Wrecking Mace to smash a rock. Ogrum plays with the mace by swinging it around, but its ball part breaks off from it, sending it flying. The ball part lands on Ogrum's left foot, hurting him. He moans in pain while his fellow possessed ogres are marching toward Makuhero City.[Ogrum video]
    • Scarox notices a Brain's rocket tank, which is empty, while he is crawling down a small rocky hill. He goes to observe the rocket tank while the Brain, who was hiding from behind a nearby small rock, sneaks up behind Scarox. The Brain jumps and latches onto Scarox's head, causing him to struggle and fall into a small chasm. Then, a small sandstorm appears from the chasm. In there, Scarox gets mutated into a monster. He jumps from the chasm and roars, but accidentally falls into the sand before getting back up.[Scarox video]
    • Three Brains' rocket tanks land on the outer rim of a volcano. Pyrox, who is enjoying swimming in the lava there, notices the landings. One of the Brains exits its rocket tank. Pyrox goes to the surface to see what is going on, but the Brain jumps from behind and latches onto Pyrox's head. This makes Pyrox fall to a bottom of a small rocky hill. He struggles while being covered with black smoke. Pyrox gets mutated into a monster and then roars. He coughs black smoke before he goes to Makuhero City.[Pyrox video]
    • Three Brains' rocket tanks land on top of a mountain. Bruizer scales it by jumping very high from one spot to another. He then finds several crystals under a nearby rock and eats them. He goes to see another nearby rock and lifts it up. A Brain is hiding under there and then jumps and latches onto Bruizer's head. Bruizer struggles while getting covered with many rocks. He emerges from the rocks and is mutated into a monster. He roars, which causes a boulder to fall from the top of a nearby mountain. The boulder lands on his head and makes him dazed. Bruizer wakes himself up and roars at a lower volume while his fellow possessed rock giants are heading to Makuhero City.[Bruizer video]
    • Frost Beast and a fellow ice creature are playing with each other in a frozen tundra by throwing snowballs at each other while being behind small ice walls. However, after Frost Beast hits his fellow ice creature's face with a snowball, a Brain appears and latches onto Frost Beast's fellow ice creature's head, and freezes it in a block of ice. Frost Beast becomes surprised to see this. He turns around and notices an object covered in ice, and then uses his claws to reveal that the object is a Brain's rocket tank. A Brain appears from the snow behind him, latches onto his head, and freezes him in a block of ice. His eyes turn red. Frost Beast gets mutated into a monster, frees himself from his block, and roars. He joins his fellow possessed ice creatures as they go to Makuhero City.[Frost Beast video]
    • Aquagon jumps from an ocean and then dives back in. He notices a Brain's electricified rocket tank sitting in the ocean floor and swims to look at it while the electricity fades out. Then, something is hiding a seaweed forest behind Aquagon and then comes out of there, approaching him. Aquagon notices it and turns around to see what it is. It is revealed that a Brain is coming at him. Then, a whirlpool appears, and Aquagon jumps from it and lands on a nearby rock, mutated into a monster. His eyes turn red and then he separates his Dual Sword Staff into two swords while roaring. He knocks an organic trout-like creature out of his head through his right ear, and then the fish falls back into the ocean. Aquagon swims to Makuhero City.[Aquagon video]
  • There is a video in HeroFactory.com where it showcases Evo, Stormer, Surge, and Jet Rocka, but it is probably lost. Lenny7092 (talk) remembers this.
  • This episode is where Episode 9 left off, where a villain laughed when he got the stolen Hero Factory schematics and seemingly planned to make an evil version of the Hero Factory. However, Episode 10 only showed this villain using the schematics to plan the Brains' attack on the Hero Factory building. It is possible that there is another villain or more who are also using the plans to copy the Hero Factory, as Akiyama Makuro predicted. Also, the episode has an unresolved cliffhanger, as there are Brains hiding in the pit in the Hero Factory building.
    • Though two chapter books, Secret Mission 3: Collision Course and Secret Mission 4: Robot Rampage, were released on January 1, 2013, and March 1, respectively, and the episode came out on March 7, it is evidenced that the events of the episode took place before the events of the chapter books. It is unknown what happened to the Brains that were hiding in the pit in Episode 10 when the events of Collision Course happened and were where the Hero Factory is doing fine.
  • Like Episode 8 and Episode 9, this episode does not have a comic based on its script, neither is it featured in a DVD or iTunes for an unknown reason. Also, Daniela Capricorn's name in the end credits is misspelled as "Daniella Capricorn".
  • During the battle against the Blank Heroes in the Hero Factory building, Bulk does two references to Marvel, one from each superhero from there. First, he throws his High-Impact Shield at a Blank Hero, which is a reference to Captain America throwing his shield to attack an enemy. Then, Bulk creates a shockwave while saying "Bulk Smash", which is a reference to the Hulk saying "Hulk Smash".
  • When the episode was aired in television, it was split into halves by commericals rather than three parts, like the previous episodes, for an unknown reason. Lenny7092 (talk) remembers this.
