After Hero Factory got canceled in 2014, the app is no longer available for download on app stores. When the website was removed, the online version of the game was removed along with it.

Gameplay

You start off in the main menu. Then, you start the game with Story Mode.

Story Mode

Level 1/Stormer Freeze Machine

You start off as Stormer in Antropolis City's construction site. The game tells you how to play as a Hero. Lucy contacts and tells you to collect three parts for your Battle Machine. The parts are inside dark gray crates with the Hero Factory symbol, so you have to find and destroy the crates to reveal the parts. After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to another part of the construction site, where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Stormer Freeze Machine. Lucy warns you that the construction site is under attack. You fight against a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts, who appear and come to attack you, with a Jaw Beast watching you from the area's background. During the fight, Lucy tells you to destroy a crate in the area to get an Upgrade. After you destroy the crate and get the Upgrade, which can be one of five types, Lucy tells you what the types can do. You defeat eight mutated Jumper minions. Lucy congratulates you for earning your first Hero Points for doing your actions. She tells that you can spend the Hero Points on upgrading your Battle Machines. Since you have 17 Hero Points, Lucy tells you to upgrade your health first. After you upgrade your health twice, with the first time having costed 1 Hero Point and the second time 5, Lucy tells you about a Super Upgrade, which costs 15 Hero Points and gives you a stronger upgrade, new abilities, and special moves. She then tells you to buy a Super Upgrade to your health. After you buy the Super Upgrade, she tells you spend your last Hero Point on one of your Battle Machine's other Abilities. After you do that, you go back to the battlefield, where you will fight the Jaw Beast this time. Also this time, there are Upgrades that float in the air rather than just being in crates. After you defeat the beast, it will retreat to the background.

Level 2/Rocka Stealth Machine

You start off as Rocka in a street in the city, near Antropolis Hotel. You go to collect three parts for your Battle Machine. However, this time, a swarm of baby Jumpers with black carapaces appear and come to attack you. You fight your way to get the three parts. Also this time, each crate provides you either one of the three parts or one of three power-ups. After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to a Future Core building in the city, where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Rocka Stealth Machine. You fight against a Splitter Beast and a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts on the place. After you defeat the Splitter Beast, it will retreat to the background.

Level 3/Furno Jet Machine

You start off as Furno in the construction site. You fight your way to collect three parts for your Battle Machine. This time, you fight a swarm of baby Jumpers with black carapaces again. After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to the Jaw Beast's part of the area, where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Furno Jet Machine. You fight against the Jaw Beast again and a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts. You defeat the Jaw Beast for the last time.

Level 4/Evo XL Machine

You start off as Evo in the street. You fight your way to collect three parts for your Battle Machine. After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to the Future Core building, where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Evo XL Machine. You fight against the Splitter Beast again and a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts. You defeat the Splitter Beast for the last time.

Level 5/Rocka Crawler Machine

You start off as Rocka again in a magnetic cavern. You fight your way to collect three parts for your Battle Machine. This time, you fight a swarm of baby Jumpers with blue carapaces, and the parts and power-ups are contain in brown rock spikes. After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to a part of the area, where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Rocka Crawler Machine. You fight against a Tunneler Beast and a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts. After you defeat the Tunneler Beast, it will retreat to the background.

Level 6/Bulk Drill Machine

You start off as Bulk in a crystal cavern. You fight your way to collect three parts for your Battle Machine. You fight baby Jumpers with blue carapaces again along the way, and this time, the parts and power-ups are contained in green crystals. After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to a part of the area, where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Bulk Drill Machine. You fight against a Crystal Beast and a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts. After you defeat the Crystal Beast, it will retreat to the background.

Level 7/Surge & Rocka Combiner Machine

You start off as Surge in the magnetic cavern. You fight your way to collect three parts for your Battle Machine. After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to the Tunneler Beast's part of the area, where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Surge & Rocka Combiner Machine. You fight against the Tunneler Beast again and a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts. You defeat the Tunneler Beast for the last time.

Level 8/Breez Flea Machine

After you collect all three of the parts, you are taken to the Crystal Beast's part of the area where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Breez Flea Machine. You fight against the Crystal Beast again and a swarm of giant mutated Jumper beasts. You defeat the Crystal Beast for the last time.

Level 9/Evo Spider Machine

After you collect three of the parts, you are taken to the top of a column where you will be given a Battle Machine called the Evo Spider Machine. You fight against the Queen Beast. During the fight, she will lay a cocoon with several Jumpers that will attack you. You defeat the Queen Beast, completing Story Mode.

Controls

The online game (or offline, for the app) was released. In the app version, the game is played by using buttons on the touch screen. In one corner, there is a circle pad, and on the left is a button for firing the Hero's laser gun or his or her Battle Machine's guns.

Interface

The game features the player as one of seven members of the Alpha 1 Team.

The game has two modes in its main menu, Story Mode and Battle Mode.

In the main menu, the player can strengthen the heroes' Battle Machines with certain types of power-ups or select beasts to fight (two being premium). Every time you defeat an opponent, you gain points called "Hero Points" that can be put towards upgrading your Battle Machine. You also gain points from bonus offers by purchasing them through iTunes.

In Story Mode, you start the level with the Hero. Your objective is to collect three of your Battle Machine's pieces. You either avoid or defeat a swarm of Jumpers who gets in your way along the way. After you collect all three pieces, you can use your Battle Machine and are taken to a different part of the area. In that part of the area, you get into a boss battle, where you use your Battle Machine to fight a giant mutated Jumper Beast. During the battle, you either avoid or defeat a swarm of smaller mutated blue-headed Splitter Beasts. The boss will get out of the battlefield for a moment to avoid getting hit by you before coming back. When you defeat the boss, you win the level. If you are defeated while in a Battle Machine, your machine will be destroyed and you will be forced to use its cockpit to escape. You will be sent back to the stage where you will fight the swarm of Jumpers again. If you can collect the three Battle Machine pieces again, you will be sent back to the main opponent for another chance.

After you are finished with the first four of Story Mode's nine levels, you have to wait for the game to be updated with the other five levels before you can play these levels.

When you play the Hero, you have three lives. When you get hit by a baby Jumper, you lose a life. If you lose all three lives, you have to start the level again. Each baby Jumpers takes many hits for you to use your laser gun to defeat it. When you get power-ups, there are three kinds of them. One enhances your laser gun so much that it can defeat a baby Jumper in one hit, as it hits larger bolts of energy, but this will last for a short moment. One restores one life. One gives you a force field, which will also last for a short moment.

When you play the Hero's Battle Machine, you either shoot or do close combat. When you get power-ups, there are five kinds of them.

In Battle Mode, you choose your Battle Machine to use and Beast to fight to make a battle between them. When you start the battle, you start by fighting the beast rather than collecting parts for your chosen Battle Machine first. The game was released, you started with the Stormer Freeze Machine, Rocka Stealth Machine, Furno Jet Machine, Evo XL Machine, Rocka Crawler Machine, Bulk Drill Machine, Surge and Rocka Combiner Machine, Breez Flea Machine, Evo Spider Machine, Jaw Beast, Splitter Beast, Tunneler Beast, Crystal Beast, and Queen Beast, making 45 possible battles.

Included in the game is Episode 11: Invasion From Below, which gives you 5 points if you watch it. Many scenes from the episodes are also played in between parts of levels in Story Mode.

When you start Battle Mode, you get 5 points.

The main menu has a section called "Daily Reward", where you come back each day to gain new rewards, which provide points. You can do this in five days in the row. The more days you do this in the row, the greater amount of points you earn in the coming days.

There was also a demo version of the game released for PCs, with only the Tutorial and the Jaw Beast levels available to play. After completing the respective levels, a screen will pop-up telling you to download the full game.

Purchases and Updates

In the game, when you gain points called "Hero Points", you buy upgrades for the Battle Machines to make them stronger.

There are five updates that you can buy in the game through iTunes:

1. When the game came out on early 2014, you get to buy 100 points. When the other four updates were not available yet, they were labeled as "Sold out".

2. When the game got updated with the Evo XL Combi Machine, which is exclusive in Battle Mode, you get to buy it. You also get to gain points when you do so. With this Battle Machine added, you had 50 possible battles in Battle Mode in total.

3. When the game got updated with the Evo Walker-Furno Jet Machine combi Machine (called "Furno and Evo Twin Machine" in the game), and the Stormer Freeze Machine-Rocka Stealth Machine combi Machine (called "Stormer Blizzard Machine" in the game), which are exclusive in Battle Mode, you get to buy them. You also get to gain points when you do so. With these two Battle Machines added, you had 60 possible battles in total.

4. You gain points for buying the level. With this Beast added, you had 72 possible battles in total.

5. When the game was updated in August 16, 2014, Battle Mode gained new timed parts in the battles. They go, from lowest to highest, bronze, silver, and gold, depending on how long did it take you to use your chosen Battle Machine to defeat your chosen Beast. The shorter time you take, you can earn a silver or gold medal, otherwise you would earn a bronze medal if you take too long. The medal will be placed on the center of the section based in your arranged fight after winning the fight.

Also in the update, you get to buy another level in Battle Mode, where you fight the scorpion-like Jumper beast combi model from the late 2014 Beast sets (called "Scorpion Beast") in an underground cavern called "Shrine Room". You get to buy points when you do so. With the beast added, you have 84 possible battles in total.

Also in the update, you get to buy a "Hero Point Power Pack", where you get 250 points. You get another Pack that allowed you to unlock everything once you bought the Pack.

Heroes and Battle Machines

You can play as seven members of the Alpha 1 Team, Stormer, Rocka, Furno, Evo, Bulk, Surge, and Breez. Each of them has his or her own Battle Machine to assemble and use. Some of the Heroes are where each has more than one Battle Machine. Each Hero also has his or her own energy blasts from his or her laser gun. Each Battle Machine has its own ranged attack and close combat attack.

Jumpers

Minions

  • Jumpers - Baby Jumpers that attack you when you are not in your Battle Machine. Despite you defeating them, more will come to attack you, and they will not stop coming until you collect all three Battle Machine parts. There are six kinds of Jumpers, one red with a black carapace, one orange with a black carapace, one green with a black carapace, one red with a blue carapace, one orange with a blue carapace, and one green with a blue carapace. The baby Jumpers also appear in the boss section of the Queen Beast's level, where the queen lays cocoons with several baby Jumpers inside to have the baby Jumpers fight you. The baby Jumpers will latch onto you and damage your Battle Machine unless you move or attack to shake them off.
  • Blue-Headed Splitter Beasts - Small mutated Jumpers beasts with blue heads from the Splitter Beasts that attack you when you are fighting a mutated Jumper beast. They only appear in the boss sections of Jaw Beast, Splitter Beast, Tunneler Beast, and Crystal Beast's levels, and they will not stop until these bosses are defeated.

Bosses

In each level, when you are piloting your Battle Machine, you get to fight a boss, which is a mutated Jumper. The boss stands on a platform on the background for a moment. It then moves to your area to fight you for a moment before it goes back to the background. It will do this cycle until you defeat the boss, finishing the level. When you get close to the beast, it will fight you in close combat. The bosses are listed from easiest to hardest. For the levels that are exclusive in Battle Mode, the bosses do not go the backgrounds because there are no platforms there.

  • Jaw Beast - The Jaw Beast's level is Build Site. The beast throws cans of toxic waste at you while being in the background. The beast will jump to your area to fight you. When you are close to the beast, it will use its claws to fight you. You have to avoid falling from one of the level's edges to avoid losing your Battle Machine.
  • Splitter Beast - The Splitter Beast's level is City Streets. The beast is on a building in Antropolis City that has two floors on the top. Specifically, the beast is on the top floor. While the beast is in the background, it throws manhole caps and makes them roll in two different directions. When the caps reach to an end of the Splitter Beast's floor in the building, they go to the bottom floor in another direction. When the caps reach to an end of this floor, they fall off and disappear from the screen. You have to jump over the caps to dodge them. The beast will jump to its floor to fight you, and you have to go from the bottom floor to the top floor to fight the beast. Unlike the other bosses in Story Mode, the Splitter Beast does not move around before coming back to the background. When you are close to the beast, it will use a lamppost to fight you. You have to avoid falling from one of the level's edges to avoid losing your Battle Machine.
  • Tunneler Beast - The Tunneler Beast's level is Magnetic Cave, where many magnetic rocks form a bridge that you and the beast are on. Some will disappear sometimes, which can make you loose your footing, so you have to jump out of these rocks' way. When you are close to the beast, it will use its claws to fight you. You have to avoid falling from one of the level's edges to avoid losing your Battle Machine.
  • Crystal Beast - The Crystal Beast's level is Crystal Caverns. When the beast is on a rocky bridge in the background, above you, for a moment, it will stomp on the bridge to cause large green crystals below the bridge to fall on you. The crystals can go from the left end of the bridge to the right end of it, or the other way around, depending on where you are in the level. You have to go to one of the ends of the level to avoid getting hit by the falling crystals. After all of the crystal fell, the beast will jump out of the bridge to fight you while more crystals will appear to take the others' place. When you are close to the beast, it will use its staff to fight you. You have to avoid falling into an acid lake and from one of the level's edges to avoid losing your Battle Machine.
  • Queen Beast - The final boss of the game's Story Mode. The Queen Beast's level is The Queen's Lair, which has a column with the beast's nest on top of it. Unlike the other levels, the beast flies in the background since there is no platform there. After she flies from the background and starts flying above the nest, she will lay a cocoon on the nest, and then several baby Jumpers will come out of it to attack you. The baby Jumpers will latch onto you and damage your Battle Machine unless you move or attack to shake them off. When you are close to the beast, she will use her staff to fight you. When you are far from the beast, she will shoot green energy blasts from her mouth to attack you. You have to avoid falling from one of the level's edges to avoid losing your Battle Machine.
  • Hydra Beast - A boss exclusive in Battle Mode. The beast's level is Lava Pool, where you and the beast are on a rocky platform surrounded by lava. When you are close to the beast, it will use an antenna from a building in Antropolis City to fight you. When you are far from the beast, it will shoot red energy blasts from its central mouth to attack you. Sometimes, a blob of lava will come out of the lava pool, in the background of the level, and will pass the platform to come back to the pool. The blobs can appear from anywhere in the level. You have to avoid getting bit by the blobs. You have to avoid falling into the lava and from one of the level's edges to avoid losing your Battle Machine.
  • Scorpion Beast - A boss exclusive in Battle Mode. The beast's level is Shrine Room, where you and beast are on a rocky shrine room. When you are close to the beast, it will use its claws to fight you. You have to avoid falling from one of the level's edges to avoid losing your Battle Machine.

Trivia

  • The game is made by Amuzo, the company who made the online game called Brain Attack in 2013.
  • There are two more "trailers" for the game, which actually use scenes from Episode 11 that involve the 2014 sets. At the end of each trailer, it tells you to play the game. The first trailer showcases the winter wave sets and was released on the same day as the game, despite the game having already been released on that day.[Video] The second trailer showcases the summer wave sets and was released on summer 2014, despite the game having already been released.[Video]
  • When the game was released, there is an error in the game, where the Jaw Beast, Splitter Beast, and Queen Beast were the only Beasts that did not show their levels' backgrounds in Battle Mode for an unknown reason. However, when the game got its first update, the error is fixed, as the Beasts got their backgrounds.
  • The Tunneler Beast's name is misspelled as "Tunneller Beast".
  • The Invasion From Below Badges have their own way of calling the levels.
  • The Invasion From Below Badge, "Xenomorph", has a spelling error, and it should say "Complete the Queen's Chamber".
  • The Evo Walker, the Flyer Beast, and the Battle Machine Combi Model for the summer wave Battle Machines did not appear in the game for an unknown reason, despite the Furno and Evo Twin Machine having used parts from set 44015 EVO Walker and the Hydra Beast having used parts from set 44020 FLYER Beast vs. BREEZ.
  • Amuzo made an article in March 7, 2014, where exactly three weeks from the release on the Google Play store for Android devices, the game had reached one million downloads, ranking it in the Top 10 New Free Games on Google Play along popular titles like Flappy Bird and Splashy Fish. Adding to that all the downloads on iTunes and the play sessions on the website, the game had proven a success. The article is no longer accessible.
  • On April 15, 2014, the game was released in the Windows Store, in Windows 8. It has everything the online version has except for LEGO ID sign-in, but this means you can now play the game on a Windows RT or 8.x tablet as well. It is free, but you will need over 300 MB of free space for the English versio, which is mainly taken up by the cutscenes. Microsoft TechNet blog The Fire Hose made an article about it, but the article is no longer accessible.[BZPower - Invasion From Below Game Available on Windows Store] The Windows Phone 8 release happened later in the same year.
