The Hero Recon Team (HRT) is a special covert division of Hero Factory.

History

The Hero Recon Team was created by Akiyama Makuro shortly after the founding of Hero Factory as an intel gathering organization led by Merrick Fortis. Fortis personally established a secret base somewhere in Makuhero City, and headed the recruitment efforts.

Three Hero Recon Team agents

Hero Recon Team members are experts at collecting and studying information from around the galaxy. They are always searching for clues through battlegrounds and the wreckage left by villains and monsters. They then report their findings to Hero Factory designers, mission managers and Hero team leaders, who use the information to improve all aspects of Hero Factory.

When Von Nebula and five members of his gang, XPlode, Meltdown, Corroder, Thunder, and Rotor, were committing crimes before Rotor was arrested by the Alpha 1 Team, the Hero Recon Team studied these six villains, and one of the members of the team, codenamed "Smith", told Mak Megahertz about them in his show called Mak in the Morning in Hero Factory FM.

Commander Fortis recently developed new elements for the Recon Team, taking inspiration from the Alpha 1 Team's journey to the jungle planet Quatros and their encounters with the Witch Doctor. Recon Team members now have access to various jungle armor pieces, including newly developed "combi-elements". However, the metal that makes up the signature Recon Chest plate has run out, halting its production.

A Recon squad has also been tracking the efforts of the Alpha 1 Team after the Quatros incident, including their recent capture of a villain named Voltix. However, during a brief lull in villain activity, they discovered that Voltix's capture was staged, and that it was all to help orchestrate a massive breakout. The Recon Team, along with all other available Heroes, were organized to help deal with the disaster. At least a sub-group of Recon Team members, who are led by "Omega", watched some members of the Alpha Team in their hunts for their assigned villains.(Omega Recon Reports)

Infrastructure

The Hero Recon Team is a group of Heroes that does reconnaissance. They are experts at collecting and studying information from around the galaxy. They are always searching for clues through battlegrounds and the wreckage left by villains and monsters. They then report their findings to Hero Factory designers, mission managers and Hero team leaders, who use the information to improve all aspects of Hero Factory. They also investigate information on a possible attack by the enemy.[Episode 8][Episode 9] They are also very acrobatic, which other people do not see as a regular skill set that non-HRT Heroes do.[Episode 9][SM3]

There are thousands of Hero Recon Team members throughout the galaxy, and they are often recognized by their unique black and silver chest plate. The HRT is the largest of the Hero teams. Heroes from the Recon unit can wear multiple types of armor and are trained to use different types of weapons and parts - even those used by villains, like the Lava Blaster and transparent cladding.

Unlike other Hero teams, there are no other teams called the "Hero Recon Team", and is very different from the other teams in some ways. However, the team can be split into smaller squads, and they can also be distinguished by the usage of Greek letters. Even the leader of each of these groups could have their Greek letter as his or her own codename to represent the group, as shown when a Hero Recon Team member, with the codename of "Omega", is leading a squad of Recon Team members called "Recon Team Omega".(Omega Recon Reports) Some members of the HRT come from the other teams, whether they are currently working in there or no longer doing it. Thelonious Fox was the leader of Deuce Carter and Oscar Flint's team who left them after Carter and Flint became team leaders, and Fox went to join the HRT,(Hero Factory FM). Daniel Rocka works as a member of both the Alpha 1 Team and the HRT.[Episode 9][FO:MSG]

The Hero Recon Team is so secretive that when current members of other teams do their Hero Recon Team jobs, they do not tell their fellow members of the Hero Factory about themselves as members of the HRT. The Recon Team members can contact Hero Factory staff members over a restricted frequency in the Hero Factory building, and, despite being rookies, know where to find Makuro's quarters. The Recon Team members keep these qualities a secret from the staff members. The non-HRT Heroes and stsff members would question the HRT members on their secret skills and tasks given by the HRT, and the Recon Team members would have to reveal themselves as members of the HRT.[Episode 9] Although secretive, members of the Hero Recon Team have a reputation for being intelligent, brave, and resourceful. William Furno looks at them as one of the best teams,[Episode 9] the other being the Alpha 1 Team.[SM1]

As head of the Recon Team, Merrick Fortis holds the rank of "Commander". Another member, Vic Tory, is designated as a "Captain Lieutenant", and is the Head of Communications for the team. Standard Heroes not possessing any additional rank within the organization are known as "Agents".(shown in the Hero Recon Team website)

Set Information

11995 Hero Recon Team

Set 11995 is a box set that can be ordered using the LEGO Shop website. It includes a custom Recon Team agent built using the Hero Recon Team website, an instruction booklet for the custom hero featuring the name and stats assigned to the hero before ordering, and a circular "Agent" sticker. The back of the box includes a statement in various languages welcoming the agent into the Recon Team, signed "Merrick Fortis".

When the service first launched, Hero Recon Team agents could include up to 31 pieces, including an exclusive chest piece co-injected with black and silver metallic plastic. An update in September 2011 raised the maximum piece count to 35 and expanded the parts palette to include a wider variety of elements, although heroes built with the exclusive chest piece could no longer be ordered through the service.

Many Hero Recon Team agents ordered near when the service first launched were delayed due to production issues. As compensation, when these orders finally shipped, they included a bonus flame element and a letter from Merrick Fortis explaining that villains had attacked the production facility as an in-story explanation for the delays.

Trivia

  • A Hero Recon Team agent referred to as "Smith" once appeared on Hero Factory FM to discuss the threat levels for Von Nebula and five members of his gang of criminals. Although he claimed that Smith was his real name and not a codename, Natalie Breez claimed in a later appearance on the show that no Hero Recon Team agent existed under that name.
  • Many promotional material for the Hero Recon team used Mark Surge ans Julius Nex's 2.0 forms as templates for its members when they are in the shadows.
  • After Rocka revealed himself as a member of the Hero Recon Team to Surge, Preston Stormer, William Furno, and Nathan Evo in Episode 9: Breakout Part 2, Surge asked Rocka if the HRT is accepting applications, implying that Surge may want to join the HRT. It is unknown if Surge had joined the team since Rocka's reveal.
  • Rocka created Hero Recon Bikes and gave them to many other Heroes.[FO:MSG]
  • Merrick Fortis and the Hero Recon Team were featured in a poster promoting a movie called We Come in Pieces, a parody to a famous quote, "We come in peace", in Antropolis City in Episode 11: Invasion From Below.
